Prometheus Poseidon 01

Prometheus is a brand that produces nice looking serious dive watches at affordable price points.  Through January 31, 2015, they have a pre-order opportunity for their newest dive watch, the Prometheus Poseidon.  This is a serious (read: overkill) automatic dive watch, water resistant to 3,500 meters with a helium escape valve and several other bells and whistles.

Prometheus Poseidon 02As of this writing, the brand had only posted renderings of the watch, but after I had a hands on review of the Piranha, and Patrick has spent time with the Sea Hawk (Borealis is a sister brand), Sailfish, and Baiiji (Part 2 here), I am pretty confident in saying that they will produce a quality watch.  There are two options for the case, stainless steel and bronze, with 5 dial/bezel color combinations.

Both cases are 43mm in diameter and 15.9mm tall.  At that size, with the 3,500 meter depth rating, this is going to be a substantial watch, but there is certainly a market for these watches.  The watch movement is the reliable Miyota 9015 automatic, and the crystal is domed sapphire with an AR coating.

Prometheus Poseidon 03The lume on the watch looks to be quite well done, and from the Piranha I spent time with, I expect the renderings to be close to the finished product.  Swiss RC Tritec BGW9 lume is used on both the dial and the 120 click uni-directional bezel.  The stainless watch comes on a stainless bracelet with a premium  Hirsch rubber strap and a leather calfskin strap.

The bronze watch comes with the two straps and no bracelet.  There are a couple of pre-order options, so you can put down ether a full deposit or a 50% deposit with the balance due when the watches are ready.  With the full deposit option, you get the best discount; bringing the price of the stainless watch to €400 (around $490) and the bronze to €445 (about $550). prometheuswatch.com
