Timex has long had a relationship with Todd Snyder, putting interesting finishes and dial designs on their lineup. They’ve done a MK1 before (which we reviewed here), and now they’re back with one that’s a bit more of a yin-and-yang treatment. Meet the Timex x Todd Snyder MK-1 “Black + White”.
The question that the Timex x Todd Snyder MK-1 “Black + White” looks to be answering is “how do you make a military-inspired watch interesting to a wider audience?” Sure, you’ve got the classic field watch look in terms of dial layout and high contrast of numerals against the dial, as well as a ballistic nylon strap between the lugs.
Rather than doing things up in a classic black dial (to keep glare down on a mission, originally) you’ve got a dial that’s half black and half white. It certainly makes a statement all on it’s own, without particularly screaming at you that it’s a military watch. What we find particularly intriguing is the Indiglo backlight. The white half of the dial should light up in that blue-green hue, but we’re unsure if the black side will just be dimmer, or if they printed it dark enough so that just the numerals light up on that side.
