While I’m sure that Armitron is a brand many are familiar with, I’m guessing that many of you have not taken a very close look at what they have on offer. So, over the next few days, we’re going to help to rectify that for you, and give you a sampling of their products.
First up? One of their analog-digital sport models, the 20-4589ORGY (yes, that is indeed the suffix on the model number). Like any good sport watch, this one offers a lot of functionality:
- 49mm resin case
- Luminous hands & orange sweep with luminous tip
- EL-backlit LCD
- Alarm, chronograph, lap, 2nd time zone, countdown, military time
- Water-resistant to 330 feet (100 M)
So, as you can see, it’s got a full complement of things that you’d expect. At 49mm, this is not a small watch, by any means. Courtesy of the resin case, however, it’s extremely light, and didn’t seem overly large.
When setting the watch functions, I ran into a peculiarity. On most digital watches, you can use one pusher to advance a value (say, the minutes), and another to reduce the value. In the case of this watch, however, you can only do an advance, which seemed a bit odd, but perhaps that bit of logic was cut out to keep the price down.
As I was setting the various times and date, I came to a realization. You can track two time zones on the digital displays (in 12 or 24 hour time), and the analog display is set independently as well – meaning you could actually track three times if you really wanted to. A neat “extra”, if you will.
So, when it comes to resin-encased sport watches, this is a decent option. While the chrome wasn’t to my tastes for this segment, it does offer something that breaks from the G-shock mold, and has a good wrist presence. And hey, at under $35 on Amazon? Not one you’ll mind if it takes a few dings while exercising or camping.
