Yesterday, we started taking a look at the Surf Coal watch from the folks at Bausele.  When last we spoke, I started touching on the straps, and why it was one of my favorite things on the watch.  Let’s pick it up there.

So, why did I like then?  They’re actually quick change!  This is done via a small nub that you pull on with your finger; this pulls the spring bar back, and off pops the strap.  Whatever your reason (going from the beach to a night out, perhaps), this is just a handy feature.  Even with this, the straps felt very sturdily in place.

And on those included straps?  Both very nice, and definitely change the character of the watch.  It came installed with a black leather band (embossed), that gives the watch a more polished feel, and made the watch feel at home under a shirt cuff.

However, slap that red rubber strap on there, and you’re ready for some relaxing on the beach.  Both work well with the watch, and change the character slightly.  In the end, just pick the one that’s best for your day, and roll with it.

Last, but not least, you’ve got the ratcheting uni-directional bezel, complete with a lume pip that matches the lumed hands.  The ratcheting seemed sturdy, and while there was some play, it wasn’t worrisome.

The lumed pip is a nice little styling bit, though the lume itself wasn’t as intense as what’s found on the hands and dial.  All in all, still quite readable in the dark.

I should also note that there is a LOT of texture on the dial.  You’ve got a waffle pattern on the moonphase indicator, circular pattern on the subseconds, and then rough (coal-like?) finish for the main portion of the dial.  None of this is distracting, thankfully – it just adds a nice bit of visual interest once you start taking a closer look.

So, as you can tell, I found a good deal to like about this watch.  Simply put, it hit the right notes for me.  I think it’s a great beach watch without a doubt, and a decent option for a daily wearer.  If your appetite is whetted, head on over to their page and pick out yours for $370 (that includes free international shipping plus a five year warranty).
