Yesterday, we started looking at the Junkers 6050-5, and covered some of the more striking aspects to the piece, and noted the modern feel to it – that’s where we’ll pick things up today.
Modernity, in watches, is generally noted in the case size. Here, it measures in at a reasonable 40mm in diameter, and houses an ETA 2824-2 (which means we have a date display at 3 o’clock). And, it does carry a 5 ATM water resistance rating, though the crown does not screw down. So, no swimming with this one!
On the aesthetics, I really liked what Junkers did. With brown leather strap and cream dial, it’s showing up in a palette that you really don’t see a lot of dress watches in (at least, not for what I’ve featured on these pages). They’ve also included some nice lume on the dial – it’s not so distracting in regular light, but when it gets dark, the little dots light up so you can still tell the time.
All told, I really liked this piece. The movement is a solid, known quantity, and the styling is a nice break from the norm. If you’re in agreement, you can head over to Long Island Watch and make one your own for $549.
