We brought your attention to some Marvin models last year (here), but after that, we went a little radio-silent on the brand.  Today, we”ll turn the dial back up, and dig into a newer (and rather bold) model.

The watch in question is part of the Origin lineup; our sample is ref M108.14.83.94.  Why the origin title?  For this lineup (which also features the M019 models), Marvin is hearkening back to their earliest models, presenting a very clean and classic styling.

Of the full M108 lineup, the variant we were sent simply has the most visual punch, with the liberal use of orange (the other options have a more standard white, or a stealthy dark grey, in place of orange).  This is, of course, all on a very legible dial, without a profusion of distractions.  While the large date display window isn”t my favorite styling, I found it wasn”t much of a distraction in daily use.

An asid:  there is one subtle bit of color you might not catch at first – take a look at the 8 o”clock position.  Notice that little spot of red?  All of the Marvin models have something at the 8 position marking out their support for a mothers and children”s charity (you can read more about that here).  Looks like a great initiative, and an easy way to help others out with our hobby.

This is all housed in a simple, polished 44mm stainless steel case, with a sapphire crystal and display caseback sandwhiching things, as well as giving you a view of the Sellita SW-200 automatic movement housed within.   All of this is paired up with a rubber strap on a deployant clasp.

Now, the rubber definitely gives this a bit of a sportier / casual feel (though I think swapping in a leather strap could very quickly dress the watch up if you wanted).  The rubber is soft and comfortable, and definitely makes you think about the old adage “measure twice, cut once” as you size it.  Just remember – you can always shorten the strap, but making it longer isn”t going to happen if you cut things too short.

I think this is a good watch for someone who wants a clean watch with a bit of visual punch to it – so someone with a larger collection, or maybe a good recommendation for a a non-WIS friend who just wants a solid watch with a great movement, which the SW-200 definitely seems to be.  Whatever audience you”re in, you can head on over here and pick one up for $900.
