If you frequent any of the popular watch forums, you’ve likely seen an ad for the Obris Morgan company.  I was curious, so I went poking around their website, got in touch with them, and obtained a sample for review.  Read on for our impression of their Flieger MN model.

Obris Morgan is a Hong Kong-based company that specializes in German military-inspired watches.  That inspiration plainly shows through in the designs, none more so than the Flieger MN model we reviewed.

With the number of sub-dials and pushers on the case, you might be tempted to think this watch is a chrono – but it truly isn’t.  The dials are as follows:

  • 6 o’clock: seconds
  • 9 o’clock:  year (2011 – 2016 indicated)
  • 12 o’clock:  month

I don’t think the watch necessarily mis-represents itself, but given it’s design, you might miss that if you didn’t study the pictures.  For the remainder of the “outputs” on the dial, you’ve got the hours, minutes, and seconds, as well as day and date.

We also have a GMT hand (looks like an orange airplane).  It’s usage is pretty simple.  Using the crown on the left side of the case, you rotate the inner bezel to match the city of the time the watch displays, and then you can count around to the city you want to know the time in.

So, in the shot above, Moscow is about lined up, for a time of 18:30.  Going around the dial, that means it would be 22:30 in Bangkok.  Of course, you can also just use the GMT hand as a simple 24 hour indicator for your current time zone as well.

For more details on the movement, lume, and our impressions, tune in tomorrow for part two of the review.
