Today, we’re going to take a look at a watch that I would’ve sworn I had written about before, but I appear to have been remiss on that account.  Any which way, we’re going to take a look at a watch from March LA.B.

They appear to be a newer brand, and are influenced by their dual locations of LA and France.  The watches themselves are influenced by designs from the 60s, and you can definitely see this in today’s watch.

This is the JC1 model, and I have to say, it’s not much of a stretch to see this popping up in an episode of Mad Men – not period correct, but definitely period fitting.  Of course, it works just as well today.  One notable departure from the past is the size of the case – the stainless steel is rendered in a truly-modern 40mm.

Some of the other features that drew me in are:

  • I love the detailing on the crown.  Totally necessary, but just a great small touch that’s easy to miss
  • The strap – it’s an interesting pattern that I’ve never seen before, a nice break from the ordinary (UPDATE:  March LA.B confirms it’s stingray)
  • A mechanical alarm – that function is just plain cool for a variety of reasons

Past all of those cool features, you’ve got the standard hands at the center; the center dial controls what time the alarm is set for (using the pusher at 2 o’clock); and then last, but not least, you’ve got the date display.  All in all, a very sharp looking watch, all yours for an MSRP of $1095.    Of course, if you’re not a fan of the strap or dial color, there are two other models in the line that gives you some choice.
