When we last left Deep Blue we were introduced to a Citizen-powered automatic diver with enough tritium to light up a small city. The company has just announced an update to their piece, a Swiss SELLITA powered diver that is $100 more than the non-Swiss version.

I personally like the style and build quality of these pieces, especially the bold faces in blue and black. While $999 is a little steep for a three-hander you’re getting a solid watch for not much money and it could easily be the tool watch of choice for folks interested in a little sea-going action or diving.

The company started in 2007 and has been making dive watches for nearly a decade. These new models feature solid workmanship, ceramic bezels, and a 44mm case. I could definitely see a smaller bezel on these guys but that’s just me.

The lume is the standout feature, however. As Patrick wrote:

?The Deep Blue Daynight Scuba utilizes two colors of tubes – mostly flat blue tubes, with a double stack of orange at 12 o’clock; we also have standard (narrow and round) tubes showing up in orange on the handset, and for the pip on the bezel. And if that weren’t enough, or you consider yourself a lumehound (and you want that luminous paint), well, the Deep Blue Daynight Scuba has you covered. From the photos we’ve seen, it looks like there is a more than generous application of lume on the bezel.

In the end a tool watch is a tool watch. However, it’s rare to see an automatic three-hander that is under $1,000 yet still features enough coolness to act is an everyday driver for almost every situation. I’ll be curious to see this guy in real life when it starts shipping.

Watch Overview

Brand & Model: Deep Blue Daylight Scuba T-100 Swiss
Price: $999
Who we think it might be for: You are a tool watch kind of person who loves some lume.
Would I buy one for myself based on what I’ve seen? Yes. This design is an interesting tweak on the original.
If I could make one design suggestion, it would be: A thinner bezel would let the face be more readable.
What spoke to me the most about this watch: Tritium, tritium, tritium!
