The KAAL is like nothing we see around these parts. It’s unusual, and very well made. It’s a high-spec piece of funky other-worldliness, and it’s cool. And it’s on kickstarter, right now.

Why should we trust the maker of this watch on kickstarter? Because he’s done previous watches. We last saw the person behind this watch when he made the Jubilieon Chronograph. That was powered by a Swiss 7750, which is great. This isn’t that watch, but rest assured, it’s made by someone who knows what’s good.

It’s really hard to take a good photo

The KAAL Multiverse is a tall case, with flat sides, a smooth, brushed bezel, and a tall dome sapphire crystal. Underneath that dome is a curved metal bridge, and below that is the moon, with all its craters.

Underneath the moon lives the seconds hand, with a lollipop on its end, hooked up so it’s visible with the moon behind it. The Minutes hand is a starburst, orbiting the moon. The minute hand lays flat over the hours. The hours aren’t represented by a hand, it’s a disc with the lumed numerals on it. The whole moving arrangement is ringed by a lumed chapter ring with the minutes marks on it.

It’s tall. It’s big. It’s bulky. And it screams quality. The case back is engraved with orbits of planets, and has a small window through which the NH35 movement’s balance wheel is visible.

Continuing the planet theme, the sides of the lugs where spring bar holes might be are filled with heads engraved with 5 pointed stars. The crown is signed with the KAAL K. That starburst inspired K is fully lumed as well.

The leather strap is thick, but comfortable. It mounts on the watch with quick-release spring bars, and is stitched in white.

Should you get one?

Throw away your preconceived notions. It’s big, it’s tall, but you won’t mind. It wears comfortably. Do you have something outside the norm in your watch collection? Are you open to fun? The KAAL is creative. It’s good. You might not be ready for it, but it’s excellent.

This isn’t the first space- or planet-themed watch. But it is the most affordable, and it’s well-made. What else should you want out of life? Good things, accessible for a wide range of people, to enjoy. That’s KAAL. It’s about 400 USD. Go get one on Kickstarter.com.
