Triwa-Partisan-Lansen-01

We have had more than a handful of articles about Triwa watches, and for good reason. The brand seems to do a good job of mixing (generally) colorful styling, quality builds, and affordable prices. As I mentioned in our previous post on the Stirling Hvalen (link) the brand has been doing more around creating more subdued color combinations. This is a trend we see continued on in the Triwa Partisan Lansen.

If you recall, we actually took a look at a chronograph from the Lansen lineup back here. With the Partisan Lansen, things have gone to a simpler three-hander look. With this particular model, what really grabbed my eye was the use of “army” green. This shows up in a brushed pattern on the dial, as well as in the one-piece leather-lined canvas strap. Pair this up with the brushed finish of the 38mm steel case, and you have a watch that definitely gives the look of the popular field watch styling.

The dial of the Partisan Lansen manages to give things a bit more of an upscale feel. This comes to fruition courtesy of the raised dots applied to mark out the hours (a pity they don’t seem to be lumed at all) as well as the vertical brushed finish applied to the dial. Another small detail that I find myself drawn to on the watch is the knurled crown. While this is primarily to improve your grip on said crown, it is a detail that both mixes up what could be a plain feature, and manages to call to mind the similar pattern found in the canvas strap. Certainly, it should work just fine when you need to adjust the time on the Miyota 2035 movement.

Of course, you have plenty of options when it comes to a green-hued field watch driven by a quartz movement (for example, this Timex, or this one). While that one certainly would win out the price battle, the Triwa Partisen Lansen takes the crown, in my book, when it comes to the overall look and feel. Based on my previous hands-on experiences with Triwa watches, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you check out the Partisen Lansen (at $230 shipped) if you think the styling is what you’re looking for. triwa.com

Watch Overview

  • Brand & Model: Triwa Partisen Lansen
  • Price: $230
  • Who we think it might be for: This is for the person who has found their eye caught by the ubiquitous green field watch, but is look for something a tad more upscale (but still affordable)
  • Would I buy one for myself based on what I’ve seen?: That’s a tossup – I like the style, for sure, but it isn’t a quartz movement that can handily do something a mechanical couldn’t
  • If I could make one design suggestion, it would be: Going for a longshot, I’d love to see Triwa execute this same style, but with a mechanical movement in place of the quartz. Oh, and toss some lume onto the hour pips
  • What spoke to me the most about this watch: First and foremost, how Triwa did an excellent job executing the use of the army green hue
