In a world covered in plastic bags, isn’t it noble for a watch brand to decide to do something about it?

Waltic is a new Kickstarter watch that with cases made of recycled plastic bags. The watches are pretty standard fare – nothing special here – but the mission is quite interesting.

The coolest thing?

This is the?first wristwatch ever made of recycled plastic bags. It’s casing is made of recycled plastic (100% from plastic bags, LDPE). Federico (founder), being a sailor saw all the plastic floating around the world and decided to do something. We started retrieving plastic bags from polluted rivers in C?rdoba, Argentina, recycling it, keeping it away from rivers and nature.

The watches cost $89 for early birds and will ship in May 2020. The cases are unique and each one is carefully washed and treated to ensure you don’t get a rash from any weird plastic. Ultimately, it’s more about the material than the watch and they are even using vegan leather to further reduce the watch’s footprint.

I would love to see more manufacturers trying this and if it means the difference between a vibrant ecosystem and a dump, I’m all for it. You can check out the Kickstarter here.
