Welcome to our regular Sunday feature, Watch Video Rewind, where we point you to videos of interest related (at least somewhat) to watch making. This week’s videos continue on from what I was posting 2 weeks ago, a look at new materials used in watch making.

TheWatchesTV posted a video highlighting how carbon fiber is used for more than just cases, and can be made to function in a variety of watch parts:

Staying with TheWatchesTV, the next video highlights (pun intended) the newest product developed by Swiss Super-LumiNova, a Grade X1 pigment that is brighter and more efficient that previous generations of lume:

Moving on to cases, I had read in a number of (what I thought were reputable) sites that Apple was using a new gold composite in their gold Apple Watch, which mixed the traditional metals with ceramics to achieve a super durable material which was much more resilient that typical 18k gold.  Alas, that is not the case, but the process Apple does use to harden this traditionally soft material is still interesting:

Finally, this last video is why I thought the gold in the Apple Watch was going to be the most interesting part of the product.  Ariel Adams took a look at how Omega was using LiquidMetal in their watches, and the ceramic/metal composite has an exclusive deal with the Swatch Group (which owns Omega) for watches and Apple for consumer electronics.  Looking at the demonstration below, I can see how this product would be very intriguing for watchmakers:

That’s it for this week’s watch video rewind.  If you stumble across any interesting watch (or time) related videos out there, drop us a line. If we end up using in the watch video rewind from your suggestion, we’ll be sure to tip our hats (electronically, if not literally) in your general direction.
