Grieb-Benzinger-Area-51

Today, we’re kicking off a new series (well, it will likely be a series) of weekly roundups that is called “Watching the Web”. In this, we’ll highlight some interesting news that we’ve seen around the web, and likely highlight some popular WWR posts from the previous week as well.

First up, we’ve got a watch that will make you wonder if the truth really is out there (and yes, the truth of bespoke watches really is “out there”). This one comes to us courtesy of aBlogtoWatch, where they cover the bespoke Grieb & Benzinger Area 51 watch. The dial is the attention grabber here (for better or worse; it’s pictured up top), with it’s liquid metal aliens. Artwork aside, you have to appreciate the craftsmanship that can create a watch like this, whether or not you like the style. aBlogtoWatch.com

Next, Ben Clymer over at Hodinkee has an excellent writeup (and video) on the new Tudor Heritage Chrono Blue. More than just being a review of the new watch (and remember, this is Tudor’s first steps back onto our shores in some time), he compares and contrasts the new model with it’s 70’s-era inspiration. Whether or not you’d call yourself a Tudor (or Rolex) guy, it’s a good (and thorough) read – you’ll definitely want to check it out. hodinkee.com

Last but not least, we’ve got a couple of our more popular posts from the week. While these are generally something that’s been published recently, sometimes we’ll have some surprises and an older post gets dug up for whatever reason, and gets itself a lot of attention.

Ring-Clock

First, though, we’ve got a very fresh article, one that takes a look at the Ring Watch that is over on the crowd-funding site Indiegogo. Yes, at this point, it does seem like it’s going to be a bulkier bit of metal to have on your finger, but that’s to be expected for cramming the electronics and a battery into that form factor. Aside from being just plain interesting, it could be a nice option for people who don’t like to have things on their wrist, or want to track a second timezone quickly without picking up a GMT watch.   Ring Watch

The other article was a bit of a surprise to me to see the hits coming in – an article John posted awhile back about the Speedmaster Reduced, which he liked well enough to put into our Favorite Watches section of the site. If you’ve not read John’s to-the-point reviews (but like what he has to say on the HourTime podcast), you’ll want to check this review out, as he knows his Speedy’s.  Omega Speedmaster Reduced

And that brings us to a close of the inaugural edition of WWR Watches the Web. Please let me know in the comments what you think – if this is something you like to have a little recap of the weeks watch-related news or note. And, of course, if you have something that you’d like to see included in a future edition, drop us a line via our Tips mailbox.
