Morning Dew On A Web Desktop Background

Welcome back to our Saturday feature, Watching the Web.  This is where we take the opportunity to highlight watch related articles on other sites that we find interesting, as well as point you back to some of our more popular posts from the last week or so.  Starting with the other sites, we have an op-ed on why watches are still needed, a look at one of the first atomic watches to hit the market, and a rap video inspired by an social media account.  After those, of course, we have our own top  contenders of the week.

So, over at the Time Bum, Ed Bush gives us a great run-down of 11 different reasons why you need a traditional (read: not a smart) watch, be it of the quartz or mechanical variety.  It’s a great list, and puts down some of the various thoughts that I’m sure many of us have often had bouncing around when we get asked why we are in to watches.  Check out the article, and then save it off for later reference when you get asked (once again) why you have that dinosaur on your wrist.

hodinkee-hoptroff

Over at Hodinkee, Kelly Jasper got spend some time with prototype of Richard Hoptroff’s latest creation, a watch that is truly atomic powered (well, ok, it’s atomic timekeeping, not powered, per se).  Hoptroff has some rather wild creations already in his portfolio, and this one is definitely another rather unique one – think of it as sort of an avant garde take on what Bathys is working up for their atomic watch.  You can read more details about the Hoptroff right here.

Last, but not least, we’ve got something that is almost a better fit for our Watch Video Rewind series, but I thought it much simpler to include it here.  If you’re not aware, there is an account (Instagram, Twitter) where users are called out for their fake watches.  This is an entertaining look at what is going on with what people buy and try to pass off as the “real deal”.    aBlogtoWatch has a writeup about the new tune, and a video, right here.

Davosa Automatic 01

Now, let’s turn back to our own pages and see what some of the more popular articles were, shall we?  First up is one that surprised me, to be honest, with the amount of attention it received – Matt’s writeup of the Davosa sale over at Touch of Modern.  It’s a brand we have not had a lot to say about for a long time, so Matt’s writeup also served as a sort of overview of what the brand has on offer.  Which is good, as the sale is wrapped up now!

Tissot-Visodate-Milanais-Featured

Next up, we had my review of the Tissot Visodate Milanais.  As I have been reviewing watches, my tastes in case sizes have definitely changed.  While I still appreciate a larger watch, my own usage and preferences lead me towards things that are definitely sub-44mm.  With this Tissot, we have a case that measures in at 40mm, but wears a good bit smaller.  This watch also has another unique treat in the mesh-style bracelet it comes with – definitely uncommon these days.

Trintec Zulu-03As we always do, I will toss in a reminder for our monthly giveaway.  This month, we are offering the Trintec Zulu-03, which Matt reviewed back in August.  So if you have not entered the drawing yet, head over to the contest page, and get your entries in.

Boxer-Black-Ice-01

We also have a second giveaway running for a few more days – head on over here to get your chance to win a Boxer Watches Black Ice (reviewed here).

Wrist ShotDid you know that we want to feature you on our site?  Well we do, and if you want your favorite watch (or favorite watch of the moment at least) to grace one of our posts, email us a wrist shot.  If you like, tell us a little about the watch and why you love it.  If you happened to be introduced to it through our site (or won it through a give-away), even better.  Just make sure the image is a JPEG and at least 800 pixels wide.

With that, I will wrap things up. As always, if there’s something you think we should be covering, feel free to drop us a line. If you bring something up that we end up writing about, we’ll be sure to tip our hats (electronically, if not literally) in your general direction.
