Here we are, weekend #2 in March, and time for the Watching the Web. But first, don’t forget to set your clocks ahead for the start of Daylight Saving Time (unless you live in Arizona, in which case, nevermind…). As we usually do in this space we get to point you toward a couple of interesting articles we find on other watch blogs, and then also highlight our own popular posts. from the World Wide Web, I wanted to highlight a really cool looking titanium watch, a Fabergé for the ladies, and a dive watch for the divers amongst the masses. From our site, we have the Timex Waterbury, the Deep Blue Daynight SCUBA, and the Novus.
I will lead off this week’s festivities with Monochrome’s look at the Romain Gauthier Logical One Natural Titanium. That is one sexy looking chain drive. The watch is also in titanium, not some super expensive metal, which is a rarity for high end watches such as this. The metal dresses it down a bit, in my opinion, which is not a bad thing. Kind of like driving a Ferrari in silver or white.
Next up is one for the ladies out there, the Fabergé Visionnaire DTZ, courtesy of Quill & Pad. I don’t see a lot of watches for the fairer sex that are interesting mechanically, but when one does come out, especially at the very high end of the market, it is something to behold. The photo above is for those of us that are interested by the mechanics of a mechanical watch, but of course, those mini machines drive something, so check out the post to see the complication.
I have probably mentioned a few times that I am a SCUBA diver (OK, I know I have mentioned it on most of my dive watch reviews). My first certification was through NAUI, but PADI is the 800 pound gorilla in the diver certification business (and I also have PADI certs), so it was nice to see the brand team up with a watch maker, especially an affordable watch maker, for a branded product. Over at ABTW, they review the two watches available, an automatic three hander and a GMT using their kinetic movement, where an automatic rotor keeps a quartz movement charged.
Moving on to our pages, it is easy to forget that Timex actually makes some nice looking watches, with the Waterbury as a prime example. Patrick took a look at the model, and as a field watch, it is not a bad-looking design.
Next up is another of Patrick’s reviews, the Deep Blue DayNight SCUBA. The watch packs some serious lume with the tritium tubes, and it is more than adequate to handle any recreational diving with a 1,000 foot water rating.
Next up is a three hander currently on Kickstarter, the Novus. The design is smilimar to several super slim watches to get funded, but the design elements are also very popular, so it is an easy well to tap. I am not sure i get the selling point the brand is trying to make about watch pins, but the leather strap above is one of the better ones I have seen on an ~$100 Kickstarter watch.
