It is the penultimate Saturday of 2014, so it is out next to last 2014 edition of Watching the Web, where Patrick or I get to point you towards interesting watches or watch related news that we have found over the week.  We also highlight a couple of the articles from our own site that have been popular over the previous week (or so).  For this week’s roundup, I found the Greubel Forsey GMT Black highlighted on Hodenkee too magnificent not to share, and A Blog to Watch’s take on the Montblanc Timewalker Extreme.  Looking inward, Patrick’s preview of the G. Gerlach Enigma and our under $500 gift guide both garnered a lot of view.

Greubel Forsey GMT Black - HodenkeeOver at Hodikee, Kelly Jasper took a look at an absolute marvel of a GMT, the Greubel Forsey GMT Black.  With a run of only 22 pieces, it is priced in the rarefied air of $565,000, but it is a thing of beauty.  The globe at 7:30 actually spins over the course of 24 hours, highlighting the noon hour as it moves west.  To the left of the globe is a a 24-second tourbillon with 25° inclination, and the movement is in-house made of 443 components.

Montblanc-Timewalker-Extreme-4While Montblanc will likely always be better known for its writing instruments, the Timewalker Extreme is the 10th anniversary edition of this line of Montblanc watches.  A Blog to Watch has a nice write up on the chronograph, which for me is a beautiful and very legible luxury timepiece, and available at a little over 1% of the cost of the Greubel Forsey GMT.

enigma_kw-500x500From our pages, Patrick’s preview of the G. Gerlach Enigma watch currently available for pre-order was a popular read.  The watch uses a mecho-quartz hybrid movement, where the chronograph functions are able to reset quickly, like a mechanical watch, but the movement itself is driven by the reliable battery powered quartz engine.

gifts

There must be a lot of last minute shoppers out there, since John’s gift guide of 5 watches under $500 was quite popular.

Lastly, you have 11 more days to enter our monthly give away, where we have a pair of watches from Bertucci, with one watch going to each of two winners.  Head over to our monthly giveaway page and get your entries in to win one of these two watches Patrick reviewed for the site.

With that, we’ll wrap things up. As always, if there’s something you think we should be covering, feel free to drop us a line. If you bring something up that we end up writing about, we’ll be sure to tip our hats (electronically, if not literally) in your general direction.  And if you need to pick up a last minute watch related gift, head to our Holiday Store at Amazon through the link below.
