It is the weekend once again, so it is time for our weekly feature, Watching the Web, where take a spin about the World Wide Web to look at some interesting watches or watch related news that we have found this week.  We also get a chance to highlight a few of our own articles that have been popular over the previous week (or so).  For this week’s roundup, I thought Wound For Life’s essay on Shinola was interesting, and I found a watch related way to honor the LA King’s capturing of Lord Stanley’s Cup.  From our own pages, we have two looks at the Lew & Huey Legends Racer and the second project from Helgray, the Silverstone Chronograph.

Shinola-Dial-FactoryShinola has generated a lot of generally positive ink over their plan to bring the “Made in America” label back to watchmaking.  Shane Griffin, over at Wound for Life, penned an essay on their progress and plan.  For the most part, I agree with his take that the steps forward are positive, but they still have a long way to go, and there are plenty of potential pitfalls ahead.

Graham-Kings-Silverstone-005Over at Time Zone, a reader posted the images and story surrounding Graham’s presentation of a Players Edition of the Silverstone RS Endurance LA Kings skeleton chronograph.  Each watch contains a bit of a puck from the Stanley Cup Final series, and has 2 diamonds for each of the LA King’s Cup wins (yes, Patrick, I know Chicago has 5, but 3 came before the Kings were in existence).

Lew-Huey-Legends-03From our site, we have a rare two-fer, where both Patrick and I took a look at the Lew & Huey Legends RacerI wrote up the launch of the Kickstarter project last Friday, while Patrick managed to spend some time with the prototype.  Our ultimate opinions differed a bit, but we both though that the watch did hit the retro racing look the company wanted to emulate.

Helgray Silverstone 02While we are on the subject of vintage inspired automotive watches, The Helgray Silverstone launched on Kickstarter this week.  I think it is an attractive and reasonably priced quartz chrono.  I was able to spend some time with two of the previous watches produced by Helgray, and the finished watches are a quality product.

Bertucci-SuperSport-11And finally, we are starting a new month, so we are starting a new monthly giveaway.  This time around, we have a pair of watches from Bertucci, with one watch going to each of two winners.  If you have not done so already, pop over to our monthly giveaway page and get your entries in to win one of these two Bertucci watches which Patrick reviewed for the site.

With that, we’ll wrap things up. As always, if there’s something you think we should be covering, feel free to drop us a line. If you bring something up that we end up writing about, we’ll be sure to tip our hats (electronically, if not literally) in your general direction.  And if you need to pick up a watch related gift, hop over to our Holiday Store at Amazon through the link below.
