It’s been some time since we had Ziiiro on these pages, so it was a pleasant surprise when I was notified by the folks over at Watchismo that a new model had just been released.

Now, the previous models I reviewed were all analog display models.  Of course, those analog displays really played with colors and shapes, rather than relying on the more traditional hands.  With this Saturn, they’ve taken a step back towards a more traditional display, but it still has a unique twist.

For starters, we’ve got an always-on LCD display with two circular tracks – the outer one indicates the hours, and the inner one indicates the minutes.  From the images I’ve seen, this really looks like it would be an easy watch to read at a glance; of course, if you want to know the precise time you could start counting the segments.

Where this watch shines (pun fully intended) is with the EL backlight – it keeps things readable, and I’m digging how the Ziiiro logo lights up as well.  The backlight is triggered with a simple pusher located at the 2 o’clock position on the case.  The case itself is made of stainless steel, and is available in three finishes (black, chrome, or gunmetal), and sits on a 24mm mesh bracelet.

While the watch isn’t available just yet, you can pre-order it over at Watchismo for $229 with the watches shipping sometime in December.  If you’re a mechanical-only sort of person, this watch of course isn’t for you.  If you’re willing to pay a little bit of a premium for some unique design in your timepiece, then the Saturn is worth a look.
