In case you weren’t aware, there’s a new Superman movie hitting theaters this summer (July 11, 2025 to be precise). And while today’s watch isn’t a tie-in to that specific movie, I could help but notice that the name (as well as a cool feature) make it perfect for a dark movie theater this summer. Franck Muller Vanguard Krypton: what it is
As you can tell from that photo, this is a watch design that is instantly recognizable as a Frank Muller piece. You’ve got the unique lugless case design, into which is set a dial with another recognizable element, the elongated numerals that positively fill the dial. It’s done to great effect, and I rather like that they left the luminous material to the outlines, and left the fill dark, to match the carbon of the dial.
Speaking of luminosity, that’s where another trick is hidden. In the Slim Night Cut, this took the form of a luminous stripe around the center of the case. In this watch, it’s spread throughout the case. You see, green luminova was mixed in with the carbon fiber of the case, embedding the glowing particles into the resin. So, just as a carbon case of this nature is unique, so too will the glow pattern.
Practical considerations
For a dark watch, the white-filled handset of the Franck Muller Vanguard Krypton is – initially – a bit jarring. But because they pop out as they do, I think works to their benefit. There’s is no hunting to find the hands on this dial, you can see right where they are. Need to check the date? Just drop your eye down slightly, and there it is, right between the center pinion and the 6 o’clock position.
Wrapping things up
So, yes, I think this would be a solid every-dayer, and especially fitting for this summer’s movie season.
