As today is the fourth of July – aka Independence Day here in the States – it only makes sense that we bring you a watch befitting the holiday.  And no, it’s not some cheesy red, white, and blue dial (though it does have those colors).  Instead, it’s a very nice looking piece from the folks over at Kobold.

Fittingly enough, it’s called the Spirit of America.  For a watch with a name like this, one would hope that it’s as American-made as it can be – and it is.  The case is made in the U.S, and they even managed to find someone to produce the domed sapphire crystal stateside; assembly is also done here.

One portion that isn’t done here is the movement.  There, Kobold went with the Swiss-made Enicar Caliber 165.  I don’t know a lot about this particular movement, but some quick research shows this as having been produced since somewhere in the mid-60’s, so it definitely has a proven track record.  Perhaps one day they can go “up the road” to RGM and match in one of their movements…

Either which way, Kobold has a strong, clean design DNA, and it shows through here in the Spirit of America.  Add in the fact they wanted to have as much of this serialized watch made in the States, and it’s definitely another bit of cachet to the brand.  If you’re attracted to their wares, you know what I’m talking about.  You can pick your own up (here) for $3,950.
