As you can tell from my writeups, Magrette has become one of my favorite brands to watch, as the Regattare 2011 in my collection is on my favorite watches.  I saw some news of new models, and went digging.

First up is a chrono based on the Regattare, the aptly named Regattare Chronograph.  This carries forth the similar styling seen in their regular Regattare,  but of course adds the chronograph registers on the dial.  Rather than give you a list of what’s similar or different, I’ll just give you the list of specs:

  • Seagull TY-2901 hand-wound movement
  • 44mm stainless steel case (alternating brushed and polished finishes) with screw down crown
  • AR-coated, double-domed, sapphire crystal
  • 500m water resistance
  • C3 Super Luminova
  • 24mm leather strap
  • Limited to 1000 pieces

The movement itself (used in both new models) is quite decorated, and is based off of the Venus 175 (you can read up on that here).  As the basic design has been around since the 40s, it’s safe to say this is time-tested, and shouldn’t give any unpleasant surprises.

The other model, the Moana Pacific Chronograph PVD, also utilizes the Seagull movement – but it has a much different presentation.  Most noticeably, it has a PVD case.  Also, it opts for a black ceramic bezel, rather than the tachymeter scale that the Regattare features.  Past that, the list of bullet points up above apply to this model as well.

Either which way (and frankly, it boils down to your choice of style) you go, you’ll have a great looking chronograph on your wrist with an interesting automatic mechanical movement keeping things running for you.   Both are currently avaialble for pre-order (either model requires a $100 deposit up front); the total prices are $498 (Regattare) or $545 (Moana), plus another $30 for shipping.
