If you’ve been reading WWR for any length of time, you know that we like dive watches here. They’re the perfect sports watch for a wide, wide variety of situations, and their basic toughness will protect the internals. Seiko has a clean touch with their diver designs, and with the inclusion of a GMT complication, it’s like they’re aiming it right at me. That’s what they’ve done with the Seiko Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT.

Seiko Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT : what it is

If you’re thinking that the watch sounds a little familiar, it’s because there was a version of it released a few years back (that model is here), and it’s when the 6R54 movement made its first appearance. So, then, what makes this version unique?

For starters, we’ve got that color scheme. While the original was green-on-green, this version feels quite ocean-going, with a blue ceramic bezel insert surrounding the white dial visible through the sapphire crystal. They’ve also introduced a new extension on the clasp, with 6 positions (each one is 2.5mm). So, you’ve got up to 15mm more room on the bracelet to adjust to conditions through the day, or to fit it over a wetsuit sleeve. Speaking of – they’ve also bumped the WR rating from 200m to 300m, so things will stay nice and dey inside that 42mm case.

Wrapping things up

Dive watches are great for every-day use, and the inclusion of a GMT complication makes the Seiko Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT ready for travel, or even just knowing what time it is for the person you’re calling (or when data is being logged). To be sure, this is considered a Caller GMT, which means the GMT hand is set independently.

This watch will be available in June, and comes in a bit higher than the previous version (new bezel and clasp, and new WR rating), at $1,700. If you want to put what is likely to be the brightest-glowing GMT watch on your wrist this summer, head on over to seikowatches.com
