Good thread on WuS about airport watches.

Just a general question about airport security. How do you all handle the special watches you don’t want marred or scratched rolling around in those little plastic tubs? Maybe I’m just being a little ‘anal’ but i’ve seen some of those things come rolling down the exit side, with content flipping and flopping all over, or even worse, a 50 lb bag landing on top of it.

  1. I know I’m stating the obvious, but I usually travel w/ carry-ons or wear a jacket. All metals get packup safely before trusting so-called “professionals”.

  2. Or you can just get a watch with a low magnetic signature. I’ve walked through many airport metal detectors with my Marathon TSAR watch and have not gotten so much as a peep.

  3. I almost always take mine off and wear a plastic belt that I made out of an old backpack strap. It’s considerably easier than taking off all my clothes and it’s fun to watch the security guy wonder how I made it through without beeping.
