Get into a discussion of glow on watches, and invariably you’ll come around to the topic of tritium tubes. There’s good reason for that, as you get some pretty amazing colors, and a consistent amount of light given off (well, until you hit the half-life of tritium) as compared to luminous paints. Luminox has been making them for ages, and now they’ve teamed up with Colorado-based Ball & Buck to create the Ball and Buck Special Edition Atacama Field Automatic.

What is the Ball and Buck x Luminox Special Edition Atacama Field Automatic Wrist Watch?

Unsurprisingly, the Ball and Buck Special Edition Atacama Field Automatic started life as Luminox Atacama Field Automatic. Then, for this version, you’re getting a camo pattern applied to the dial (keeping the military time scale visible) and chapter ring, along with the Ball & Buck logo appearing on the dial. Here’s what else they have to say about the design:

Ball and Buck infused its signature touches on this military favorite: Original Ball and Buck camo
provides the backdrop for the face and a sapphire crystal exposition case back shows off the 26
jewel automatic Swiss movement. Subtle blaze orange accents can be found throughout the
design which includes Luminox Light Technology providing maximum visibility even in the
darkest environments. There’s even a secret detail that highlights Ball and Buck founder’s four
generations of sporting heritage.

Who’s it for?

In general, Luminox watches are for anyone who wants a tough and durable watch that you’ll be able to read the time on, no matter how dark or bright it happens to be. With this Ball and Buck collaboration, this takes things a bit more in the direction of the active outdoorsman who wants to have a bit of their field gear with them whether or not they’re headed out to the field.
