More often than not, when we see a watch brand release a watch with a year (or an implied year) in the name of the watch, we’re looking at some sort of a reissue. With the Oris Divers Seventy Five, we’ve got more of a “what if” scenario. With their friends over at Collective Horology, they took a Divers Sixty-Five and reimagined if it it had existed in the 1970s.

Oris Divers Seventy Five Wrist Watch – Design

And it’s not just any generic 70s vibe, either. This time, it’s California graphic design from the era that gave the inspiration for the look. Here’s how they put it:

With the C.04, Collective looked to 1970s California graphic design to draw out the elements they love most about the Oris and the Divers Sixty-Five – bringing back the original Arabic dial with no date in a fitting ‘70s color palette, embracing the brand’s unique bronze and steel bicolor format, and backing it all with the in-house Caliber 400. The result is a bit of historical fiction: While this design was never created by Oris in the 1970s, it very well could have been.

While I tend to like a date display, I get why it was omitted here. The color palette is cohesive, and I really enjoy how they’ve gone with the steel-and-bronze combo in the case and bracelet, lending a bit more earthy warmth to the design.
