Oris, the renowned Swiss watchmaker, is set to re-introduce the chronograph version of the Divers Sixty-Five in its 2023 lineup with the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph Watch.
This move comes after the brand phased out the previous chronograph model from its vintage-inspired series of dive watches, which was known for its substantial 43mm case. The new Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph watch, however, sports a more compact 40mm case, a design shift that aligns with the current collection’s focus on three-handed models.
The new model retains the spirit of its predecessor, but its smaller size and contemporary color scheme lend it a more refined aesthetic.
The case has been slimmed down to a thickness of 15.4mm, a noticeable reduction from the nearly 17mm of the previous generation. The bronze bezel ring of the old model has been replaced with a stainless steel one, framing a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.
The watch’s reverse side features a solid screw-down caseback, while the 3 o’clock side houses pump-style pushers and a signed screw-down crown, ensuring a water resistance of up to 100 meters.
Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph Dial
The dial of the new Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph mirrors the layout of its predecessor, but with a modern monochromatic colorway that complements the stainless steel case. The tinted lume, gold-finished hands, and hour markers of the old model have been replaced with white lume and polished white metal finish hands and markers.
The dial layout remains unchanged, featuring registers at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, and a standard applied luminous index at 6 o’clock. However, the new model, like its predecessor, omits the date display.
Movement
The heart of the new Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph is the Caliber 771 automatic movement, the same as in the previous 43mm model. This movement, based on the design of the Sellita SW510 and Valjoux 7750, operates at a frequency of 28,800vph (4 Hz) and offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Despite the smaller case size, the chronograph registers maintain a proportional and cohesive appearance on the dial.
The new model’s lugs are slightly closer together, now offering a standard lug width of 20mm, which increases the number of compatible third-party straps.
Price
The watch is available with either a flat three-link stainless steel bracelet or a black leather strap made from sustainably sourced deer leather by Oris’ Swiss partner, Cervo Volante. The new Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph comes with a higher price tag than its three-handed counterparts, retailing at $4,200 USD for the leather strap version and $4,400 USD for the stainless steel bracelet version.
Despite the price increase, it’s worth noting that the cost of the Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph has only risen by a few hundred dollars over the last few years, a modest increase compared to the steep price hikes seen in other brands’ catalogs. oris.ch
