Baltic Watches Prismic collection

Over the last year or two, we’ve written about a number of different Baltic Watches releases (most recently, right here). While those were all about adding a color theme (black-and-gold) to existing lines, earlier this month, they released a wholly knew model with some rather lovely dials. Though the preorder for the Baltic Watches Prismic has closed, they’ll be coming later this year as a regular model

Baltic Watches Prismic: the dial

Watch dials can tend to be pretty boring, sterile affairs. Often, it’s just a simple metal blank that gets hit with a solid color, and then serves as the foundation for everything else to be mounted on, and it can sort of fade into the background. With this watch, that is most certainly not the case.

If a watch dial has any sort of texture or finishing, it’s more commonly limited to a single thing (say, the sunburst patterning), or maybe a second texture. Here, we’ve actually got four different finishes just on the dial itself. You’ve got a sunburst guilloche in the center, a coin-edge guilloche at the outer edge, a pebbled grain in the sub-dial, and then a circular brushed finish on the indice track. This is no mean feat, and should play just wonderfully in the light.

On top of the dial

The Baltic Watches Prismic doesn’t stop there. You’ve got pyramidal and elongated chevron hour markers in full polish, and then stilleto-blade hands with what appears to be a primarily matte finish and beveled (can’t see if they’re polished) edges. This just all adds to the light-catching interest. If that wasn’t enough, you’ve got a range of colors available as well: icy blue, rich purple, an earthy salmon, or race-ready green.

All the rest

Here, the watch features a slim (under 10mm) case that also carries on the different finishes, with a darker band that the lugs jut out from. This case should fit a variety of wrists, coming in at 36mm in diameter; with the 20mm lugs, you’ll be able to put this on just about any strap you would like. On top, you’ve got a domed sapphire crystal. Around back, there’s another piece of sapphire that allows you a view of the manually-wound ETA Peseux 7001. That movement has it’s own mix of finishes; just make sure to keep that crown pushed in when you’re near water, as the watch just carries a 30m WR rating (ie, suitable for washing up, but not for swimming with).
