Last year at Time to Watches, Carl Suchy & Söhne introduced a new watch line, the Belvedere. This was a bit of a curveball, as we’re used to hearing about new table clocks and elegant, dressier watches. The Belvedere, well, it’s decidedly more casual and sporty. For this year’s Time to Watches, a new colorway hit the ground. Meet the Carl Suchy & Söhne Belvedere Midnight.

Belvedere Midnight: what it is

While the Carl Suchy & Söhne Belvedere Midnight may not be labelled as a dive watch, per se, it certainly feels like one. No, the 100m WR rating isn’t hitting that, nor is the lack of a diving bezel. Still, there’s something here that feels like there was a heavy dive watch influence. You have a bold case profile, a large handset, and generous luminous indices to help you keep track of the time, day or night.

Elevating the design

Given the maison behind the watch, we wouldn’t settle for ordinary. The case of the Belvedere Midnight is done in a black DLC that darkens things up, and provides a solid foundation for the black dial. The dial, though, isn’t flat. You’ve got textured lines coming down from the chapter ring, and then another set of perpendicular lines on the date display disc. That’s right, the date display disc. Rather than a stationary window, the whole center of the dial rotates. The date disc itself is stationary, and the window moves to the new date. Definitely unique, and a hidden bit of whimsy in the design.

Wrapping things up

So, who is the Belvedere Midnight for? With the coin edge bezel and overall aesthetics, it feels like it’s for the person who wants steel sportwatch sensibility with an elevated approach to things. In other words, you can appreciate the finer things in life, but you also carry a practical approach to what you do and what you add to your collection. If that strikes a chord, the watch is available now for € 7.900 (approx $8,400) directly from carlsuchy.com
