Introducing REC Watches

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

If you have been reading our site for some time, you no doubt have caught on that I have been a fan of watches that manage to re-use materials. This most commonly takes the form of watches that house old movements brought back to life (ala Archer Watches or the Wrocket ), or perhaps materials being repurposed in the strap. When it comes to REC Watches, the recycled material actually shows up in the dial.

Historical Horology – Diving Into Dive Watches

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

I like dive watches. My first automatic, years ago, was an inexpensive (Freestyle I think) dive watch that I purchased because I started diving. For years, my daily watch was a Eco-Drive titanium dive watch. My first purchase on kickstarter (and the direct link to me writing for this site) was an Anstead dive watch. My first high end watch is likely going to be the Omega Seamaster in orange (one I run out of other things to spend $6,000 on). But let’s be honest, these are no longer tools for diving, rather they are fashion choices.

Watching the Web for September 13, 2014

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Welcome back to our weekly installment, Watching the Web, where we have a quick look at some interesting watches and articles that have popped up over the last week (or so), as well as taking a second look at what some of our more popular articles this week were. Today, we’ve got a hands-on look at a watch as new, more affordable Ressence, a watch from a company more known for their accessories, and the biggest news of the week, the Apple watch. After those, we’ll highlight (as usual) some of our more popular posts from the last week. Read on to see what we’ve got in store for you.

Pssst – Want to Buy a Grail Watch, Touch of Modern Sales

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

A grail watch, the thing that dreams are made of. We all have them, well out of our price range watches to aspire to… one day. Touch of Modern (a private, limited time sale site, free to join) is running couple of sales right now (various brands, Breitling) on several drool worthy watches, with prices reduced (at least for me) from the stratosphere to the mere upper atmosphere. Maybe, just maybe, a 60% or so price drop will entice someone to pull a trigger.

Tatooine Sand Watch – May the Force Be With You

Matt Himmelstein By Matt Himmelstein

I don’t think that there is a hard corps Star Wars fan alive who does not know that the Lars homestead on the planet of Tatooine was filmed, not in a Hollywood soundstage or back lot, but in the desert of Tunisia in North Africa. So it is not in a galaxy far, far away, but rather on a continent fairly far, far away from most readers. But some enterprising folks have gone out and collected sand from the area and used it to create the Tatooine Sand Watch, now available on kickstarter.

Introducting the Pierre DeRoche TNT Royal Retro 43

Patrick Kansa By Patrick Kansa

Even though I’ve been covering watches for a decent amount of time now, it is still a pleasant surprise to come across a brand doing something unexpected, especially one that has been established for a bit. That is especially helpful when they decide to apply the appellation of Retro to a new model – at least there is some back catalog to derive from. That is precisely what we have here with the Pierre DeRoche TNT Royal Retro 43.
