We have long liked a number of watches that Alpina has produced, and have reviewed a number of them. Those fit my wrist just fine, but some may need something a bit more compact for a smaller wrist. For those folks, who also enjoy the look of a diver, should be aware of the Alpina Alpiner Comtesse Sport Quartz Rainbow.

Now, we will say this. If you were to go through the press release, the Alpina Alpiner Comtesse Sport Quartz Rainbow is being aimed squarely at women. Our take on it is that needlessly gendering watches is a bit weird these days, as many folks would appreciate a 36.5mm diameter watch for their wrist, just as just about anybody can wear a 40 or 42mm case, if it fits their style.

What about the colors, I hear you ask? Well, sure, the Alpina Alpiner Comtesse Sport Quartz Rainbow goes through rainbow hues on the dial, but I’d be a liar if I said I wasn’t intrigued by the rainbow tritium tubes that Ball has been doing. So, I say anyone can wear a rainbow dial if they want to. And realistically, this is primarily a blue-and-steel watch, with those pops of color at the indices.

While we don’t have any lume shots in the photos we were provided, the specs do state that those indices (as well as the handset) are luminous. So, it’s really carrying forward an Alpina dive watch look, just in a more compact case. Ok, sure, the water resistance has dropped to 60m (instead of the minimum 100m that we tend to expect), but it should be just fine for day-to-day summertime life.

If you want to get a Alpina Alpiner Comtesse Sport Quartz Rainbow, be aware that you’ll be part of a smaller club. By that, we mean to say that only 288 pieces of these will be available at a price of $995. From what we can tell, it looks like they’re not sold out yet, so you can head on over to their site and pick one up. alpinawatches.com
