Division Furtive Type 50, Straight Ahead

As the old saying goes “there is more than one way to skin a cat.”  With watches there is more than one way to display the time.  There is, of course, the circular display, with lots of variations, and then there are text displays, be they digital or printed, like the Devon Tread.  Division Furtive Type 50 watch is not content with these options, and uses a linear display, two rows of LEDs for time, date, moon phase and chronograph functions.

Patrick reviewed the Type 46 back in 2012, and the Division Furtive Type 50 improves on that concept in a number of ways.  There is improved battery life, more durable and higher end materials (especially if the stretch goals are reached), and the watch can function as a flashlight.  The watch itself is housed in a 50mm black PVD stainless steel case with a mineral glass crystal and a silicone strap.  Stretch goals in the campaign will provide upgrade the a sapphire crystal and a leather strap if 350 or 550 units are sold (with more rewards at higher levels).

The watch is such a unique item that it is hard to make a recommendation one way or the other.  Frankly, I think that this would be the perfect watch for a certain group of people, while others are going to be scratching their head over it.  The early bird price is $195 CAD, with later pledges requiring a $295 commitment.

I expect that the watch will reach it’s funding goal, and that the early bird watches will go quick.  After all, he did get 42 people to give him a buck or more for the privilege of providing input into this design.  Check out the Kickstarter page and see if the watch is for you, or go to the Division Furtive web site to learn more.  division-furtive.com
