That’s right, fans of nearly-indestructible watches. The venerable G-Shock line is celebrating 40 years of tough timekeeping in 2023, and to mark the occasion, they’re setting off flares. More precisely, they’ve released two new “Flare Red” models, a MT-G and a Mudmaster.

On one hand, these are the watches we’ve come to know and love, with the overall style and functionality really unchanged from the other models in their respective lineups. This is more than just a new coat of paint being slapped on the dials for accents. I mean, yes, there is some of that occurring, sure. The more noticeable change occurs with the bezel of the watches.

Here, carbon and glass fiber come together in a multi-colored explosion to protect the watch (while it also draws the eye in). What’s particularly clever here is that G-Shock has also mixed luminous material in there as well, meaning that the cases have some element of glow-in-the-dark, just as the dials do.

If you want to pick one of these limited-edition models up, the MT-G is going for $1,300, while the Mudmaster comes in at $1,100. While we saw a number of upcoming things at a media preview the other month, these solar flare models are undoubtedly some of the most eye-catching. Check it out over at gshock.casio.com
