Maurice Lacroix, in collaboration with Geneva-based watchmaker Label Noir, has recently unveiled a striking new iteration of the MASTERPIECE Skeleton watch, named the MASTERPIECE Skeleton Label Noir. This limited edition, restricted to just 288 pieces, marks a creative convergence between the Swiss watchmaker known for its innovative designs and the customization specialist acclaimed for its distinctive use of monochrome.

The partnership between Maurice Lacroix and Label Noir is not new. Their initial collaboration in 2020 on the AIKON urban-themed watch was a tremendous success, with the edition selling out within minutes. This prior achievement set the stage for their latest project, which builds upon the foundation of inventive collaboration and mutual respect for each brand’s creative prowess.

Label Noir, established in 2011, has carved a niche for itself in the luxury watch market. The firm is celebrated for reimagining existing watch designs, often utilizing a black and white palette to create unique and memorable pieces. Occasionally, they introduce a pop of color to add excitement, but it is their sophisticated use of monochrome that has garnered widespread acclaim.

Maurice Lacroix, headquartered in Saignelégier, has a history of collaborative innovation, working with brands and creatives across various fields. These partnerships have ranged from media collaborations with Monocle and Wallpaper to more unexpected ventures, such as producing Aikonic Gin with Stoff and Schnapps. The collaboration with Label Noir represents a continuation of this open approach to design and creation.

The MASTERPIECE Skeleton watch itself is a modern interpretation of a horological tradition that dates back to the 18th century. Skeletonizing a watch involves meticulously removing parts of the metal to reveal the inner workings of the movement, a technique that, while aesthetically pleasing, has historically posed challenges to the reliability and stability of the movement. Maurice Lacroix addressed these challenges head-on by designing an in-house movement that maintains the structural integrity and precision of the watch, leveraging CAD and modern CNC machining for unparalleled precision and reliability.

The MASTERPIECE Skeleton Label Noir allows wearers and onlookers alike to appreciate the intricate details of its movement. From the keyless works to the gear train, and from the openworked cap of the spring barrel to the oscillating screwed balance wheel at 12 o’clock, the watch is a testament to both brands’ commitment to innovation, design excellence, and the art of watchmaking. Label Noir’s expertise in color and contrast adds a layer of visual intrigue to the watch, making it not just a timepiece but a piece of wearable art.

The piece is available now for $7,950.00 online.
