Welcome to our weekly feature, Watching the Web, where Patrick and I get to point you toward some watch related articles we found across the WWW, as well as highlight some of the more popular articles over the last week or so from our own site. This week, I am going to start with Pi Day before getting to the real watch related posts: the Ressence New Type 3, a list of watches that dispense with traditional hands, and some smartwatch announcement that happened this week.
As should be no surprise to anyone reading this site, BaselWorld is well underway, with all manner of announcements being made about new and interesting watches. This year, Tissot actually had five different collections that were launched or extended. While items like the T-Touch and MotoGP watches get most of the attention, I was intrigued by a different set of watches – the Tissot Vintage.
Chronographs are a funny thing, for me. On one hand, I do understand and appreciate the overall look of a chronograph, be it a bi- or tri-compax layout. For all practical purposes, however, I simply do not have a use the complication offers. As such, I generally tend to steer away from chronographs, especially as they are generally housed in larger cases. That all said, I may have found an exception to my rule with a watch being introduced at Basel later this month – the Junghans Meister Chronoscope.
Christopher Ward has made a lot of watches with ties to motor sports, and to legendary cars. Their latest release deepens this connection, with 4 watches commemorating the tradition of Grand Prix racing in Europe. Over the years, we here at WWR have developed relationships with quite a number of different brands, ranging from the newest indie’s to some of the bigger, more established names in the industry. One of the newer relationships we’ve developed is with Projects Watches. Along with the obvious affordability the brand offers, they have a unique sense of design, often pushed along by bringing in designers who are not traditional watch designers, resulting in some unique ideas.
