Perhaps it’s just because of the various collaborations I’ve been aware of, but it seems like Jeff Staple is a lot like Roy Kent – he’s just everywhere! The last time we talked about Staple, it was in a collaboration with Undone. This time around, he’s working with the crew over at Fossil, and the Staple x Fossil combines two designs from the Fossil archives.

Those two watches? Their Sundial watch, as well as their Hologram, staples of the early 90s. The sundial portion, that’s pretty obvious, because it looks like a sundial on your wrist, right? Where’s the hologram? Well, release the catch on the side of the case, and the sundial (with the signature Staple pigeon set in it) flips out of the way, giving you a look at the actual watch under the sundial. And it’s there that you find the hologram. This hologram flips between a pigeon in flight and the Staple logo over a 3D Staple marking.

So, right out of the gate, you’ve got a very unique look, and an interesting dial. The dial gets turned up a bit further on the design side with a silicone jacket that wraps around the case. The silicone is in three hues, inspired by Terrazo stone. This stony look belies the softness of the silicone, and gives an overall cohesive look, as the same pattern is on the sundial, case jacket, and the strap. This you’ll see once you open up the egg case that the watch comes in.

All in all, it’s a very unique approach to time on your wrist, coming in at $280 for the automatic watch. Think this is a cool look? Well, stay tuned, because we’ve got one of these in right now, and we’ll be coming to you with a full review very soon. In the meantime, you can check the watch out over at StaplePigeon.com, or of course at fossil.com
