In Review: Withings Scanwatch Horizon

What’s that, a smart watch here on WWR? That’s right! Sure, we normally review those over on Knapsack, but sometimes, there’s some stuff going on that makes it a compelling option to include over here. And after spending some time with the Withings Scanwatch Horizon, we believe we’ve definitely got a solid smart watch option for those who don’t want to look like they’re wearing a smartwatch.

Introducing: Timex X Huckberry Ironman Flix

Way before I was “in to watches”, it seemed that the Ironman-branded watches of the late 80s / early 90s were just everywhere. I mean, it was hard to not know about them, and a number of people at school wore them, with the Ironman yellow accents making them stand out. If that’s stirring some nostalgia for you as well, then get ready for the Timex X Huckberry Ironman Flix.

Casio brings 1987 into the future – preorder the DW-H5600

The new G-Shock G-SQUAD DW-H5600 fitness watch is based on the original G-Shock design, now with heart rate monitor, and you can pre-order by April 21, 2023.

The classic G-Shock is the DW-5600. It’s been around since 1987, and is the essential G-Shock, with its distinctive rectangular with cut corners octagonal shape. Everyone recognizes this as a G-Shock. And now, there’s a new version, with Bluetooth and fitness by POLAR.

Introducing the Polar Ignite

Introducing the Polar Ignite

As you’re aware, I’ve covered a variety of fitness-specific watches, testing them out as part of my own trips to the gym. Over time, I’ve really come to like the products coming from Polar, for a combination of functionality, ease of use (including clever charging), and affordable pricing. The most recent of these I reviewed was the Polar Vantage M. If you’ve spent any time with the Polar Vantage, their newest watch – the Polar Ignite – will look familiar. There’s more here than meets the eye, though.

When it comes to watches, people tend to think of them in the traditional form (be they quartz or mechanical), or go to the other end of the spectrum with full-on “smart” watches of the Apple and Android varieties. Sure, those get some fitness tracking in, but it’s more an afterthought. What about a watch that is purpose-built for that task? There are options out there, but the stuff from Polar has quickly become some of my favorites, and my now-constant gym companion. Lately, I’ve been spending time with a more recent release, the Polar Vantage M.

Odor-free workout socks? That’s what the MP Magic Socks are offering!

Odor-free workout socks? That’s what the MP Magic Socks are offering!

We’ve focused on a variety of different items you might want to take with you to the gym, including fitness-tracking watches and even shoes.  One thing we’ve never really talked about were socks.  And, well, why would we?  Socks themselves are pretty boring, and most folks just are going to opt for whatever inexpensive cotton ones they can find.  Myself, I’ve become very partial to the Darn Tough wool socks, and use those for my primary workout (and daily wear) socks, as they’re warm, moisture wicking, and pretty odor resistant.  Well, these socks from MP Magic Socks are looking to take the odor resistance up a few notches.

While we have reviewed more than a few different fitness watches, there is one brand we have not really focused on – at least, until today.  That brand, of course, is Suunto.  As with many other brands, they offer a wide variety of fitness watches, some very technically oriented to a specific sport or activity, and others a bit more, shall we say, generalist.  Today, we check out that latter category, with the Suunto 3 Fitness.
