One of the benefits of being a watch reviewer is that we get to see a lot of watches, particularly when new ones come on to the market. Or are in the process of coming, which means that on some rarer occasions we do get to go hands-on with a prototype. This is what we have today with the R. Paige Crash of ’29, which is the result of a collaboration between Richard Paige and Mark Carson of Individual Design. Let’s take a closer look at what this collaboration has wrought, shall we?
Wait a minute, wait a minute – this is a post on a Kickstarter watch that is not written by Matt? That’s right, folks! Not to worry, he is still on the crowdfunding beat, this is just one that I took a particular shine to, so I jumped in to write it up. And yes, this is a project that cropped up before. That earlier project was trying to be a philanthropic effort, but Kickstarter does not allow those. Due to that, Azula Watch took a step back, rebranded and refocused, and came back with their watches. Without any further pre-amble, let’s jump in to see what the Azula Watch is all about.

Lew & Huey are back at it again, with their sixth watch project launched on kickstarter. This time, the Lew & Huey Legends Racer is a square case design that harkens back to the look of the Tag Heuer Monaco, with a bit of the look of the Tudor Heritage Chrono.
Today, we are going to mix things up a little bit for you. Obviously, Kickstarter watches are not anything new. What is new (or at least different, as of late), is that it will not be Matt covering it. As it turns out, Visitor Watch Co. is a short train ride from Chicago, so its owner, Phil Rodenbeck, hopped on over to give me a hands-on look at the debut models in the Calligraph collection: the Visitor Watch Co. Duneshore.
I find it interesting when alternative materials are integrated into watches in an attractive way. That is why I am drawn to some wooden watches, and also why I was interested in the Vincero Watches project up on Kickstarter right now. For those of you who’s interests turn more to the solid feel of stone, this project may be something you want to check out.
It seems as of late, there’s truly no shortage of watch designs hitting the various crowd-funding sites. Some of them are taking things in the brand’s own direction, others pay homage to popular designs of the past – or current day. The latest we’ve run across, the Waves Design Tesoro, is definitely in that latter camp.
