Obama wears a Jorg Gray 6500 Series Chrono and now you, too, can own the same watch. How much is this piece of presidential ephemera? $325, babies, and worth every penny. Here’s the story:

org Gray 6500 Chronograph worn by President Obama was given to him as a 46th birthday present by the members of his Secret Service detail. President Obama was the earliest Presidential candidate to be assigned a full Secret Service detail (in May 2007) and his relationship with the members of his security team has been reported to be very close.

It runs a Citizen Miyota quartz movement, which makes President Obama another proud member of the quartz majority. Pick it up now and own, quite literally, a piece of history. It’s a basic chrono movement with the following complications:

12-hour main watch with luminous seconds hand
24-hour indicator inset dial at three o-clock position
Continuous seconds indicator at six o-clock position
Chronograph minutes (stop-watch) at nine o-clock position

  1. The Secret Service logo is trademarked. You can get the watch here, without the logo

  2. I don’t like it. But they’re not really doing anything illegal other than profit off the president’s name, which may or may not be legal — I have no idea.

The star on Barack Obama’s watch features the Secret Service Emblem as seen here: http://www.onthedash.com/docs/obama.html (you have to scroll down a little bit)

The star emblem on the “BaracksWatch.com” wristwatch resembles the Secret Service Emblem but isn’t it. So is it Barack’s watch? The watch, movement, etc IS the same watch. Is the dial the same? NO.

    There you have it.

  3. I feel a little shaky about the authenticity of this item. The fact that the Secret Service logo is not included doesn’t worry me, since that logo is trademarked, but these two things do give me pause:

    1) There is no “Jorg Gray” stamp between the 7 and 8, as pointed out by another reader.

    2) Also, often a sign of a replica, you’ll notice that this watch is being sold without the “JAPAN MOVT” lettering at the bottom pole of the watch.

I’m not saying that this is a fake watch, but I suggest you be careful before you buy.

  4. I just received my Jorg Gray 6500s from BaracksWatch.com…also known as Presidential watches.com..it is a wonderful piece! Mine came with a star logo on the dial(but of course not the Secret Service star) it includes the Jorg Gray logo between the 7 and 8, and has the JAPN MOVT stamp at the bottom of the watch! So it arrived 100% as ordered…and as it was ORIGINALLY pictured.I am 100% satisfied! It did take a while for shipping…I placed my order on 2/11 and it arrived yesterday,3/17. But it was worth the wait!!

  5. If you really love such beautiful and powerful consumer electronics , I will recommend you a good place : tradestead
there you can enjoy yourself fully with much more choice!

  6. I bought mine from http://www.barackswatch.com

Arrived today. It does have the
    1. JAPAN MOVT stamped on it.
    2. JORG GRAY 6500 on the dial.

It does NOT have the JORG GRAY logo between 7 and 8.
The one displayed on the JORG GRAY website : http://www.jorggray.com/jg6500.html
does not have the logo between 7 and 8 either.
    Any reason for this?

It is a nice watch though, and I’m keeping it anyway!
Barack Obama is the best thing to happen to U.S. in a very long , long time.

  7. The Jorg gray logo is moved to make room for the Secret Service logo on the watches contracted for sale in their store. You’re fine. The service store sells the watch for $210.00 but only secret service members or their guests can buy in there. Kinda’ a chintzy gift for the boss, eh?

  8. Hi Guys, just thought I’d throw in my two cents worth. Had a few beers one night, went trawling around the net and bought myself a Jorg Gray 6500 from Jorg Gray. Watch arrived in quick time, seeing as I am in Australia, and I am so happy I bought this watch. Wasn’t going to wear it, keep it as NOS, but last week curiousity got the better of me, and it hasn’t been off my wrist since. Sure, I love Barrack, and the feeling he bought to the world when he was elected, and that was the reason I bought this watch in the first place. But I was not expecting such a beautiful watch. I have Omegas, Tags, etc., but I just love this watch. There is a beautiful blue sheen, perhaps from the relective coating, (if it has one), that just amazes me, and I love the distortion of the glass from the side view. It is so comfortable to wear, and looks great with anything I wear. A happy chappie, and glad I had those beers.
