Timex T80 x Space Invaders Wrist Watch: If you’re going for a nostalgia watch from the 80s, you’re either thinking of some brightly-colored plastic watch, or something like the all-digital Timex T80. It was a watch that first introduced in the 80s, and was reintroduced a few years back to capitalize on the nostalgia of us Gen X folks. Want to turn the “I remember when” knob all the way to 11? Then you go for something like the Timex T80 x Space Invaders.

Space Invaders

Why Space Invaders? Well, that’s a video game that also hails from the 1980s, and I remember playing a good bit of it on our trusty Atari 2600. While the arcade cabinet version hit in 1978, it was 1980 that it leapt onto our home machines. In that way, it’s a perfect fit then with the T80. Same era, same sensibilities to how graphics are done, and so on. The first obvious cue is the bezel, which was the logo, the space invaders, and the defense system printed in red-on-black. Less obvious, but very cool, is the fact that they included the game sound effects for the alarm.

Timex T80 x Space Invaders Wrist Watch: Features

Around the back of the watch, you’ve also got a space invader engraved. Fairly simple, but it gets the job done. Sort of like this watch – it’s a simple digital, but it gets its work done. For simplicity, the 34mm case is going to fit a variety of wrists, and the bracelet itself is easy to adjust to those wrists as well. It’s fairly light, given the brass case and acrylic crystal. And for functionality, it’s got all the hits of the 80s: INDIGLO backlight, daily alarm, month/day/date display, and a digital chronograph. In other words, everything that a preteen me would have wanted while blasting aliens on our old tube TV.

Price

If you’re looking to ride this wave of nostalgia, the Timex T80 x Space Invaders won’t break the bank at $89 in three different finishes. Just watch out for water. With a 30m WR rating, you want to keep this watch dry, just like a gremlin. You can pick one up over at Amazon, or of course directly over at timex.com
