While we may not tend to think of the fashions that came out of the 60s and 70s as being anything particularly timeless or classic (in the traditional sense, at least), there are some elements of it that do persist. For instance – while Ivy League style really took hold in the 1950s, it continued on into the 1960s and lead directly into the “preppy style”. And a watch that captured that style back then has been re-introduced – the Accutron Legacy 412.

Though, to be fair – while Ivy League and preppy style, we tend to think of men’s clothing (or at least I do, being a guy). While this watch could fit smaller wrists, I’d say the 34mm Accutron Legacy 412 is aimed more for the women. It’s also a time capsule of Accutron’s design. The original version of this watch is where the design for their Spaceview case, which you can see with the horned lugs and the crown down at the 4 o’clock mark.

The case of the Accutron Legacy 412 is stainless steel, with a gold-tone applied to it (which feels period-correct, especially paired with the black band). Those gold tones carry on to the hands and indices, set against the silvery white of the dial. I also like how the faceted indices seem to pick up some of the angles that we see coming at us on those lugs.

Around the back of the Accutron Legacy 412, you’ve got a partial window into the automatic movement inside. Not many details on that, other than it’s Swiss-made and has 26 jewels in it. You might be wondering, why not quartz? Well, with this hailing to a design that came from 1969, that predates the quartz crisis ever so slightly. It does make for slightly chunkier proportions (when you compare the height to the diameter), but it is what it is.

The Accutron Legacy 412 is available now, in a limited run of 600 pieces (each is numbered; this limit is common to the Legacy series). While it’s asking price of $1,450 feels a bit rich for me, that seems to be where the Accutron line – as a whole – is targeting itself, cashing in on nostalgia while looking to re-establish itself in the luxury watch range. Thank you for reading this WristWatchReview post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

WristWatchReview is one of the few remaining truly independent watch news outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent watch sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis. We don't play the games the other sites play and we've paid for it when it comes to ad revenue.

We would love for you to support us on Patreon and every little bit helps. Thank you.
