Now, to be fair, this is a release from back in early November, but life’s ebbs and flows had this slip through the cracks just a little bit. So, let’s close out the year with a brand that not only brings us those affordable delights, they’ve also really been bringing their design A-Game. So, without further ado, the Time and Tide Finisterre x Timex.

At first glance, it might look like the Time and Tide Finisterre x Timex has two seconds hands – one at the center (in a light blue) and then a small seconds at the 2 o’clock position. Well, the small seconds is correct. But that blue hand? That’s actually for tracking the tide. Me, I’m a land-locked midwesterner who doesn’t know a thing about tides (except they destroy my kids’ sand castles), but the reviews seem to rather like how they’ve implemented this. So, if tides are your thing, this should get the job done.

Even if tides aren’t for you, the Time and Tide Finisterre x Timex is a handsome watch. The color scheme is classic (with a small pop of color), cleanly legibly, and the dive bezel will help you track your dive, your hard-boiled eggs, or even your parking meter. What I particularly like – aside from the mis-matched handset – is that magnifier on the date window. More commonly known as a cyclops, this is something my eyes really wish we’d see more brands offering as an option. Or maybe I need to get brave about trying to glue my own on.

Whatever your needs – a solid dive watch, something to track the tides, or just a good quartz-driven all-arounder with a magnified date (and a luminous dial), the Time and Tide Finisterre x Timex should definitely get the job done. And for all the functionality, it’s never hard to agree with the value a Timex gives for the pricetag. Want to pick one up and keep an eye on those waves? They’re going for $249 direct from timex.com
