Long-time readers will know that I’ve got a special place for Magrette in my heart. For one, it was the first automatic watch that I ever had on my wrist, and I wore the snot out of it for the longest time. Second, it got me interested in watches coming from places I’d not thought of as a hub of watch creation (in this case, New Zealand). Now, Magrette is trying to pull me back in with the new Magrette Waterman GMT.

There are actually a few variations being introduced of the Magrette Waterman GMT. You’ve got your choice between a black or a white dial, and a black or Coke bezel. Past that, there’s also a limited-edition Redbar version, which has the striking red dial.

For me, the Magrette Waterman GMT has all the great looks I’ve come to associate with Magrette. You’ve got the cushion case, stick indices, and a handset that gets the job done. Now, for the GMT, this is what’s known as a “Traveller’s” GMT, which means you set the local time hour hand independently. Another thing you’ll want to note is that the case and the bracelet (if you opt for that instead of the rubber strap) are made of Grade 2 titanium, so these will be lighter than steel models you may have handled from them in the past.

Finally, on the materials front, we should note that the bezel insert is ceramic, and lumed, so this really is quite a lovely watch they’ve put together here. The standard Magrette Waterman GMT will be $786 on the bracelet, while the Redbar limited edition (only 100 being made) is $726 on the red rubber strap. Pre-order is open now, with about a 50% deposit, and the remainder due before shipping in August. magrette.com
