It doesn’t feel like it was all that long ago (not even two months) when we were telling you about the SevenFriday PS1/03 (you can read that here). Then again, when you’ve got a proven (and popular) design, iterating things in a smart path to go. While the second version kept things gleaming and polished – like a modern yacht – the SevenFriday PS1/04 looks to go in a much more rustic direction.

The big change for the SevenFriday PS1/04, of course is the presence of brass. Rather than using actual brass (which of course develops it’s own unique patina), SevenFriday has instead opted for brass-toned PVD coatings for their parts. Under the glass, this is a bright brass, while the case and crown have gotten an antiqued finish, to give the appearance of things having weathered under the salty waters.

Frankly, I think developing the case in actual brass or bronze would have been a smart move, as collectors of watches with brass or bronze cases like to play around and force the patina, really making the watch more their own. For those who don’t want to worry about their wrist turning green, however, this approach is decent path to go.

As we saw in the prior release, the SevenFriday PS1/04 only carries a 30m WR rating (good for hand washing, but not swimming) which seems odd for a boating-oriented watch. Then again, a leather strap isn’t something you should swim with anyways. As it looks on their product page, the $1,650 watch is already sold out, but you can sign up to be notified when more are released. sevenfriday.com
