Two years ago, we told you about the new (for then) Timex M79 Automatic (seen here). We liked it then, bringing a Sub homage look to the Big T. Now, a few years down the road, we’ve got a newer version that I like a bit more. So, what does the new Timex M79 Automatic bring you?

For one thing, this Timex M79 Automatic brings you a different coloration. The original would have been called The Batman with it’s black dial and blue/black bezel. Here, things have lightened up a bit. The dial itself is navy blue, and then the bezel is a grey and lighter blue (that blue hue also shows up on the edge of the bezel, where it mounts to the case). Thematically similar to the original, but this particular combo feels a bit less harsh, and I do rather like what I see here.

The case has some changed lines as well, but the other big change that you’re likely to notice on this Timex M79 Automatic is the bracelet. Gone is the very mesh-look bracelet, now replaced by a solid link setup that looks like you’ve got two center lines weaving through. Not only does this give it a more robust look and feel, it also means you’ve got a much slimmer clasp under your wrist, which should really improve the wear comfort. All in all, it just feels so much more correct against those integrated lugs.

Now that we’re coming out of the cold and dark winter months, this Timex M79 Automatic looks like a good way to lighten up your own personal color palette as well. Want to get one? You can get it direct from Timex for the very-affordable $279. As for us, we’ll work to get a loaner in, as we’ve not seen the M79 in person. timex.com
