Review: Stuhrling Centurion

SC2When Stuhrling first contacted us to do a review, they sent a Centurion. When it arrived, I’ll admit, the design threw me off for a bit. The unique font, the extremely sharp and square case – this didn’t reflect the type of watch I typically wear. To be fair, I didn’t care for it all that much. I was determined to give the watch a fair chance however, and wore it on a daily basis for a while, just to collect some opinions.

Once I stopped walking on a lean, due to the heavy weight and serious construction (almost all Stuhrling watches are constructed of surgical stainless steel) I started to like the thing. It keeps great time, has a very unique look to it, and is the type of watch that it’s ok to wear on a daily basis. It’s ok if it gets a little scratched on the buckle, because it’s tough. In fact, I’d almost say it could probably stop a bullet if it needed to.

Admittedly, the Centurion is not for everyone. It is a very large watch, as you can see from the pictures. My wrists aren’t exactly small, and the Centurion is almost a little too large for me. I do like it however, and it is reliable and very well constructed.

MSRP on this watch is $1140, however if you shop around you can find them deeply discounted. I was able to find the Centurion for $329.99 on Amazon.

Tomorrow we’ll be taking a look at the Stuhrling Atlas, a watch that takes its design from some classic styling.

Thank you for reading this WristWatchReview post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

WristWatchReview is one of the few remaining truly independent watch news outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent watch sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis. We don't play the games the other sites play and we've paid for it when it comes to ad revenue.

We would love for you to support us on Patreon and every little bit helps. Thank you.

  1. C,mon man! That is not a fine timepiece but instead a chinese made piece of crap designed to fool novices. I question EVERYTHING ABOUT IT especially the movement. Is it even jewelled?
Check out Hamiltons automatic line for a better watch that will cost way less than that ridiculous msrp listed above, and probably in the range of that Amazon price.
The stuhrling line is as fraudulent as any in the business.

  2. @Franc 63: i would suggest you to be a little daring, go out on a limb so to speak, go purchase a stuhrling and then see if you still have that same opinion, I am saying this only because I have over 20 stuhrlings, and the one time i had an issue with one of them. You heard me right 1 out of 22 had an issue I sent it back and I got a replacement within a short time, that costumer service beats out any I’ve ever seen and that alone, besides the fact i love their watches will get me coming back more and more. Trust me if you would actually give them a chance you will see what I’m talking about, unless that is you work for Hamilton and the only way you know how to promote your product is by bashing other products that compete with you, which in my opinion I don’t think its a competition because Hamilton isn’t in the same league as Stuhrling original and, for any of you who want to see the passion I’m talking about go see for yourselves. http://www.stuhrling.com

  3. Am i truly understanding what you are saying? You think a failure rate of 1 out of 22 is great? OK, so you like your watches. But a failure rate of 1 out of 22 is great? Wow, as a manufacturer, I want more consumers like you, that is, very easy to please.

  4. If its self winding how come I have to wind it every other day or it will stop running no matter how maney times I shake it. I don’t like it too much bother.

  5. I got sucked into buying these 3 to be exact the watches are chinas finest one watch works great it is as Swiss quartz. One watch looks great but stops every minute at the 32 second mark. The other one I haven’t worn yet but is also an automatic skeleton. I guess you’re flipping a coin. When you buy these. I got mine on amazon 11/25/12

  6. It makes good costume jewelry. This company also makes akribos xxiv watches another chinas finest watch sold on amazon.

  7. Stuhrling has a website and legitimate address in Brooklyn new York but the fact that you have to pay them 20 bucks and return shipping and handling to fix a watch that gives you a warranty is pure bs. The automatics have to be wound almost eveyminuteno matter how mny times you move your wrist. I’d hate to be the person that buys there top of the
One watch from amazon or overstock and it comes out that it sucks. I have learned my lesson and I will never buy these again.
