Yema Sous Marine

For a number of years, we were just so used to a new Yema release being a variation on what we had seen before. Yes, it was an identifiable look, but it makes it harder to break through and catch eyes when it’s the same Yema look year after year (yeah, we’re looking at you, Rolex). Then, this year came along, and we started seeing totally new looks (which we wrote about in this Yema post and this Yema post). Well, add another to the list, the Yema Sous Marine.

Yema Sous Marine – Specs

Fittingly, sous marine translates, simply, to “underwater”. So, yes, this Yema is a diver, which that 300m WR rating should have tipped you off to. Now, when I see a smaller brand is offering a 300m diver, I’m thinking that the case is going to be pretty substantial. Surprisingly, Yema kept the 40.5mm case to just 12.2mm thick, which makes this a particularly tasty one (in terms of sizing), especially with that near-universal 20mm lug width.

In terms of dial design, we’ve got a pretty legible white-on-black approach, with the overall look of the dial reminding me of a targeting reticle, or perhaps the view you’d have through a periscope. Sizing should be just fine for us desk divers, but the hands might be a bit narrow for truly diving and timing. Oh, and speaking of – while those bezel inserts look like your standard aluminum inserts, they’ve actually lumed the numerals there. So, kudos to Yema for adding that bit of pop there.

Straps

And if it’s pop you’re up for, then you’ll be exploring those colored straps that you can color match to the dial or bezel. In short, it looks like a fun little diver, and you get a piece of the Yema story on your wrist as well. It’s up for preorder (with delivery anticipated for later this month) at $890 on the color-matched Viton strap, or $990 on the stainless steel beads-of-rice bracelet. You can see the full collection, and preorder yours, directly at yema.com
