But how can I do that, you might ask?  I don’t have any medical training!  Have no fears – the folks over at the Human Time Project have you covered.

As they say on their site, for many people, a watch is just a fashion statement.  For a doctor, however, it’s a vital tool.  Think back to your last checkup – odds are, the doctor or nurse was looking at their wrist while checking your pulse.  Now, what if you doctor didn’t even have access to such a simple (and vital) tool as a watch?

To that end, Gustavo Sainz and Ben Rodriguez took it upon themselves to start this project.  No, it’s not a non-profit – but they are planning to do good.  For every watch that you buy (at $95, including shipping), they’ll donate another to a medical professional that has need, focusing first on Central, South America, African Congo region and Asia in the summer of 2012.

The watches are currently up for pre-order, with delivery planned in December of 2011.  And what of the watch itself?  It has some decent specs:

  • 46mm case (guessing steel?)
  • 50m water resistance
  • Quartz movement
  • NATO-style strap (in tan, orange, green or black)
  • Hours/minutes/seconds/date display
Sure, this isn’t the fanciest watch in the world, but it’s got the basics covered, and does have an interesting style (I’m still undecided on the canteen-style crown cover).  And on top of it all, you get the warm feeling that comes from helping others while indulging your watch-collecting tendencies.  Sounds like a win-win!
