Skagen Signatur Sport LE

Now that we’re firmly in April, that means we’re in Earth Month. You’ll see all sorts of initiatives to help you focus on learning more about the Earth, and of course ways to help preserve and improve it. Introducing a new consumer product is counter-intuitive, but that’s what we have with the Skagen Signatur Sport LE.

Skagen Signatur Sport LE eco credentials

So, let’s get this out of the way first – if you’ve already got a watch, simply buying yet another watch isn’t going to save the world. On the other hand, if you’re looking to get something to replace a worn out watch, or for someone who doesn’t have one? Then the Skagen Signatur Sport LE could certainly help reduce impacts. This isn’t a new thing – we’ve written about some of their prior forays.

So, on to the eco-credentials. Here, it’s just in the form of the rPET material used to make the textile strap. It’s a good first step, and we’ve seen a number of brands go that path. What is surprising is they’ve not gone for anything else to change. For instance, why not have the case – which is steel – made from recycled steel? Or even another recycled plastic? In other words, there is more that could be done here.

The looks

So, that bit is a little disappointing, sure. That all said, they have delivered on a lovely design. It’s dive-watch inspired, so it looks like a watch that’s ready for adventure (though, only backed up by a 50m WR rating, so no swimming here, please). What particularly struck me is the handset and color. You’ll definitely have no problem telling the hands apart, with the hour hand looking all the world for a SIM card removal tool.

The combination of the flourescent yellow against the blue/green they’ve gone for on teh dial and strap is sharp, and hits us with a nice dose of color. Finally, putting the magnifier over the date window helps elevate the look of the watch, while also giving us a nice dose of functionality.

Wrapping things up

All the eco-friendly bit aside, the Skagen Signatur Sport LE is an attractive watch. It’s also a rather affordable one as well. If you want to get one, they’re just $145 in this great blue/green color palette that’s ready for summer. You can pick it up directly at skagen.com
