Why, that sphere has 2/3 of the volume of that cylinder!  What does that have to do with watches?  Well, that mathematical discovery was courtesy of Archimedes, and today’s watch comes to us courtesy of the Archimede Watch Company – more specifically, their Deck Watch model.

This is a design that hearkens back to the watches that officers on naval ships would wear – first as pocket watches, and then, ultimately, as wrist watches.  The watch itself is classic and simple.  You have a 42mm polished case that contains manually-wound ETA 6498 movement driving the blued hands around the dial; enclosing the package is a sapphire crystal with AR coating on both sides.  All of this starts at $720.

To my tastes, I like the cream face on the brown strap; however, you can opt for a black dial with white hands / indices, and/or a black strap.  That’s not where your options end, however.  For another $60, you can add a deployant clasp to your strap.  Or, if you really want to upgrade things, you can go to their TOP model.

This upgrades the movement to an ETA 6498-2.  This allows for a more accurate watch, as this movement ticks away at 21,600 beats-per-hour.  It also brings some additional decoration, and amenities such as incabloc shock protection.  It’s not a cheap upgrade, though.  Pricing comes in at $1,095, which equates to about a 50% increase in the price.

Regardless of the movement you go with, or the particular color combinations, you’ll be getting a sharp looking watch.
